Author Biography
John Rollin Ridge or “Yellow Bird” (1827 – 1867), a citizen of the Cherokee Nation, is considered the first Native American novelist. Ridge was the son of Treaty Party leader John Ridge and the grandson of Major Ridge, longtime Speaker of the Cherokee Nation.
