by Demetrios G. Papademetriou (Author), Kimberly A. Hamilton (Author)

Much attention has been given to Japan’s need to restructure its economy and its bureaucracy, but little critical analysis has addressed the necessary role of immigration policy in the reform process. Papademetriou and Hamilton look at Japan’s approach to immigration in the context of the nation’s wider process of economic and political reform and argue that Japan will have to adopt a more open immigration policy if it is to ensure its place as a global leader.
