Dr. Sarah ShaBazz is an educator, author, and community advocate with a lifelong commitment to children, families, and equitable care. She holds a doctorate in education and serves as a full-time professor of Child Development and Early Childhood Education, where she prepares future educators and leaders to support young children through developmentally responsive and culturally grounded practices.
With decades of experience working alongside children and families, Dr. ShaBazz brings both professional expertise and deep compassion to her writing. Her children’s books are intentionally created to support young readers through life transitions using gentle language, affirming messages, and relatable illustrations that center safety, love, and belonging.
In addition to her academic work, Dr. ShaBazz is the founder of Soul Sistah Doula Services, where she supports families during pregnancy, birth, and the postpartum period, and mentors birth workers committed to respectful, family-centered care. She is also the author of several children’s titles focused on identity, family, and resilience.
Dr. ShaBazz writes with the belief that every child deserves to feel seen, valued, and supported-especially during times of change. Her work bridges education, advocacy, and storytelling to create resources that nurture understanding, healing, and hope for children and the adults who care for them.
