In Peace and War describes a true story about a conflict in the oldest maritime union: the Marine Engineers Beneficial Association (MEBA). Following the retirement of the union’s longtime president, the new president suggested a merger with another unlicensed union (NMU) under the guise of creating a more efficient infrastructure. But the true motive is to consolidate the pensions of both groups, as some fear. And the new leadership is changing the union’s constitution and transferring power from members to the new leaders.
